Review the Relationship between Building Design, Cost and Quality in the Further Education Sector

Published 10.07.06

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in association with the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) commissioned a study to review the relationship between building design, quality and construction-related costs in the Further Education (FE) sector in England.

The review has been supported by investigations into capital costs as well as work to establish a quality assessment for buildings to understand where in terms of development quality, the sector may wish to aspire, and then be able to compare it to where it currently stands. The cost and quality data has been analysed and certain findings have become clear. As a result a number of recommendations have been made by the consultant team to assist the LSC's thinking about its future  capital investment programme.
